Almonds are a rich source of Vitamin E, and mono unsaturated fat, one of the two “good” fats responsible for lowering LDL cholesterol. Almond oil contains vitamin A, B and E, in addition to omega 9 and omega 6 fatty acids that help keep hair strong and healthy, preventing against breakage. Almond oil’s natural moisture-sealing properties help to replenish hair and also fight against split ends by holding moisture in hair for longer periods of time.
Dry hair has too little oil and moisture to sustain its normal health and texture. Vitamin E present in almond oil may alleviate dry hair. The vitamin works in two ways to check this problem of dry hair. It decreases platelet aggregation (leading to clot) and improves the flow of blood to the scalp, which brings nutrients and oxygen that support hair health. Vitamin E also contains high levels of antioxidants that neutralize free radicals and toxins that may interfere with hair’s health.
Omega 6 and 9 (fatty acids) prevent dry hair by controlling water loss in hair, stimulates hair growth by making hair softer and more pliable. Fatty acids are also mild humectants i.e. they are able to absorb small amounts of water from the air’s humidity in order to help maintain hair hydration. Additionally, fatty acids omega 9 and 6 help to reflect damaging UV rays and protect hair from the sun, deterring the dullness that comes from dryness.
