Cystitis

Cystitis is a bacterial infection of the bladder.Women are more prone to suffer from this condition as compared to men. This is because their urethra or the pipe that passes the urine from the bladder to the vagina is smaller in size. This allows a shorter passageway for the bacteria to enter the bladder via the vaginal or anal opening. Pregnant women also carry a higher risk of developing cystitis. During pregnancy, the urine carrying tubes lose their muscle tone & are unable to empty out the urine completely. This leads to accumulation of urine and growth of infection causing bacteria. Men suffering from an enlarged prostate can also suffer from cystitis due to the same reason.
