Gout is a kind of arthritis which occurs when the uric levels in the blood increase & the due to the excess of uric acid in the blood. excess acid crystallizes in the joints.
Uric acid is created in the body due to breakdown of purine, a substance which occurs naturally in the body cells & is also present in certain food items.
Though, gout often attacks the big toe, it can also affect other joints of the body. Uric acid comes from the breakdown of compounds called purines. Purines are naturally occurs in the body which are also present in foods such as eggs, oatmeal, lentils, cauliflower, spinach and french beans. An enzyme called uricase keeps the uric acid level in the body in check. When there is deficiency of uricase, the uric acid assembles and crystallise in the blood causing gout.
Gout mostly affects the big toe but can also impact ankles, heels, knees, wrists, fingers and elbows. ItThis condition leads to sudden, severe attacks of pain, redness and tenderness in the affected joints.
